Geophysical survey is a technique used for detecting and mapping sub-surface archaeology. It is often used as a prospecting tool in advance of development, but can also be used to further characterize a site of known archaeological interest.

This technique is often used in conjunction with evaluation trenching.

Three different types of geophysical survey are commonly used in archaeology:
magnetometry, resistivity and ground penetrating radar (GPR).

Acer Archaeology specialises in geophysical survey and offers three types of in-house geophysical survey and analysis:

  • magnetometry;
  • resistivity, and
  • ground penetrating radar.
